The Little Black Leather Jacket

I have wanted a black leather jacket for as long as I can remember! Growing up in a country (read India) where the average temperature is 30 degrees celsius, there wasn't much scope for a black leather jacket in my life.

However, oddly enough, when I moved to England, a black leather jacket was not the first thing on my mind. The first jacket I ever bought was a military jacket that I used to bits; but that's besides the point. The point is that I never got my leather jacket.

Last month however, the jacket called out to me. It was like everywhere I went it followed me. I was suddenly in a sea of men and women who seemed to wear nothing but a black leather jacket. Now, I'm not one to be part of a herd, but this seemed like a cult of cool people and I felt left out. I HAD TO GET A BLACK LEATHER JACKET! As dramatic as that sounds it is true; thats is exactly how I felt! I had no option- and so began my hunt for a nice leather jacket that wouldn't burn a big hole in my wallet.

After looking high and low I decided to settle on this H&M Jacket.

I bought the jacket in one size bigger than my usual so that it to be comfortable and could roll up the sleeves if I wanted to.

The jacket has quilted patches around the shoulder and if you know me at all, you'll know that I melt whenever I see anything black and quilted. Sigh... if only I could have a Chanel 2.55!

The jacket also goes well with most of my clothes, be it work clothes where I layer it with cardigans and shirts under or something more casual like an oversized Boyfriend-Tee over the weekend; the jacket is perfect for everything.

It is also one of the most comfortable jackets I have ever owned. It makes me feel rough and tough even though I'm probably not in reality! I personally think, a leather jacket has a very masculine feel to it making it one of the sexiest pieces of clothing for women.

To keep you warm, feel rough and tough or simply be stylish, whatever your reason may be to own a black leather jacket, you simply cant go wrong with this one!

Cant shoot me with that Pistol

One of my favourite things about autumn is going shopping for Boots. Every year (count 3 times since 2010) I go shopping around September for a pair of boots promising myself that I'll buy only one pair of boots  for autumn and winter and use it for the whole year. Yet only in two years later I have managed to own 8 pairs of boots. Oops...I wonder how that happened! Anyway, this year was no different. I went on my crusade to Oxford Street and came home with these...

Tah Da!!!!! Aren't they nice? These are the high street alternative to the Acne Pistol Boots that first appeared in 2009 and have been a staple in every fahionista's shoe closet since. Ok, so I'm not saying I'm a fashionista, but I work in a building full of women and they are quite a fashionable bunch and receiving a compliment from one of them in the lift is a real compliment I'd say.

In fact, I liked these boots so much that I couldn't resist myself. I went ahead and got myself these...

I agree, it is pure greed, but I couldn't resist them! Also they weren't that expensive considering the fact that they aren't the real Acne Boots! oh how I wish they were... but these are just as nice if not better. The tan ones are perfect for the weekend or a casual Friday at work. They look really nice when worn with dark blue jeans. They don't hurt are extremely comfortable.

There are a bunch of store on the high street that make this style at the moment and right from Primark to Topshop everyones stocking them. So there's a pair for every budget out there.

By the Collar

Collars made a come back in summer and this autumn they are indeed here to stay. Be it collared shirts or faux collars that you can add to a top to make it more versatile or collar necklaces.

There isn't much to say about collared shirts really, they have been around for ages... literally (since the invention of shirts I'm assuming). But after a little preview last autumn, studded collared shirts have returned this year.

If you think thats a bit much, there are ways to have subtle studs on your collar. This one below is a perfect example of how less is more. 

 

Faux collars are also in this season. From plain and simple peter pan collars to faux fur collars, theres one for everyone. Bedazzled collars are a great way to accessorize a dress as they are a mix  between a collar and a necklace. They even look cute if added to a plain shirt to jazz it up a bit. This  H & M one is perfect for a dressy lunch with your girlfriends  without breaking the bank.


It was however a bit too flashy for me. So I decided to get the faux fur collar from H&M that would keep me warm in winter as well. It looks perfect on all my coats and jackets.

Although I have to admit, from all the options in collars out there in the market, my personal favourites are collar necklaces as they can be worn as statement pieces and can jazz up a boring outfit. They are daintier than actual collars and so are also a little more feminine in my opinion. Also depending on the outfit they can look different with every look whilst still adding something to the whole look without being as over powering as faux collars. 

This Ted Baker one has gone right into my wish list. I would have bought it too but is a bit much to spend on costume jewellery!

Last weekend on a quest to find unique jewellery I went to Spitalfields Market in East London and found this gem.

It goes perfectly with a lot of dresses as well as shirts and is easy to dress up or dress down. Its a perfect statement piece even to wear to work and above all my personal take on collar necklaces!

The Girl in the Green Scarf

The first time I heard of Rebecca Bloomwood I was 18 years old! I had never read, only heard of Sophie Kinsella's famous series. After a long day of mother daughter retail therapy my mum and I decided to head for the movies.  As we got there, we were torn between a ton of movies to choose from. Suddenly my mum looked at the ten bags in my hand and said "Maybe we should Confessions of a Shopaholic". "Haha, that's rich coming from someone holding five bags", I said. "Well sweetheart, these bags are yours too and that's exactly my point!" she said smugly, clearly having won that argument.

The movie was my moment of epiphany! I realised that I could totally relate to Rebecca and it was almost exactly my life- sans the designer clothes and the cute editor boyfriend! It was scary to see that, that could be me in 5 years with all those credit card bills. That day I decided to be extra careful with money and not spend it AT ALL if possible. Yet, here I am today, writing this blog that is all intended to be about things I have bought! Clearly, acting on my thoughts is not one of my key strengths!

One of the main reasons why I thought that Rebecca and my lives were the same in parallel universes was because I owned a green scarf too. Ok, given that mine wasn't the Dolce and Gabbana scarf that Patrica Field got her inspiration for the crinkled Kelly Scarf in the film, but it was in fact one up! It was a cashmere knit scarf knitted by my grandmother. She gifted it to my mother 25 years ago and very conveniently I stole it from her. The scarf however is gorgeous and even today looks brand new!

As you will see above, the scarf made a little appearance on my trip to Stonehenge. It is the perfect accessory as it keeps me warm stylish at the same time! Green being a versatile colour can be paired with an arrey of colours. My favourite colours to with scarf would be black, white, grey and dark blue. While some might think that these are safe boring colours, I think the green makes these 'safe' and 'boring' colours come to life and brings the while outfit together. The scarf itself can be can be dressed up or down depending on the rest of the outfit. Also, its not a very thick scarf, however its quite long making it perfect for spring and winter.

Sadly, my scarf is not available in stores for other to buy as my grandmother made it and that makes it one of a kind and hence is even more precious to me!However,  there are tons of options if you are in the market for a green scarf. My favourite is this Khaki green Zara scarf! It subtly even brings in the military trend that is big this autumn!

My seconf favourite is this River Island Skulls Scarf. Agreed that the design might be a rip off of the classic McQueen Scarf, yet it has its own charm and is really cute! Also, I can see this scar

Although Rebecca had to learn her lesson the hard way, (remember that awful action where she had to sell ALL her clothes- catastrophe!!!) I hope I never have to encounter that. I hope I keep rediscovering classic pieces like this scarf in my wardrobe that will keep my wallet and my urge to style things differently happy!
